Gehry’s Schnabel House in Brentwood Flipping For $15 Million

Brentwood home

In a wholly unsurprising development in the real-life game of Monopoly played by producer Michael LaFetra, the serial trophy house collector has put his Frank Gehry-designed Schnabel House up for sale on the open market. One of only 28 single-family residences designed by Gehry, the property was built in 1989 for Rockwell Schnabel, a former ambassador to Finland, and his architect wife, Marna. Sited on a half-acre lot in Brentwood, the Schnabel includes four structures: a main building with a living room, library, family room, kitchen, dining room, media room, study, sauna, plant room, a master bedroom, and two other bedrooms; a garage/gym building; a guesthouse; and an office with a dome inspired by the Griffith Observatory. There’s also an olive orchard, a reflecting pond, and a lap pool. LaFetra purchased the compound for $9.5 million in January 2013 from Book of Mormonproducer Jon Platt, who spent several years restoring and renovating the house with Gehry’s oversight. Eighteen months later, he’s listed it with an asking price of$14.995 million.
