While not as retro as his hangar-esque construct in La Jolla, CA, or as stunningly sharp as the celebrated Razor Residence in San Diego, this Wallace Cunningham-designed masterpiece in North San Diego County certainly lives up to the architect’s reputation for melding museum-like architecture with commanding views of the Pacific Ocean.
Forged of concrete, glass and steel, the modern masterpiece known as “The Crescent” proudly presides over a double-wide crest in Encinitas, CA, creating an ideal combination of ultimate luxury and coastal locale. Sporting a tiered design aimed at amplifying depth and space, curved walls shield a central courtyard with a beautiful crescent moon-shaped pool. Above it, a terrace stretches along the exterior, bridging various levels lined in floor-to-ceiling windows.
Inside, a twisting modern staircase spirals between three levels spanning 6,350 square feet. On the top floor, four bedroom suites look out over the Pacific; while other levels house an office, a gourmet kitchen and a living room with a fireplace.
It’s about as impressive an example of contemporary architecture, unrivaled quality and paramount location as you will find. However, this type of contemporary living certainly does not come without a price: the Cunningham-design currently lists for $11.75 million.
